U.S. 218 lanes restricted in Johnson County beginning Monday

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Sept. 10, 2008 –  Construction work will restrict traffic lanes on U.S. 218 in Johnson County beginning Monday, Sept. 15, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Cedar Rapids construction office. 

Hawkeye Paving Company of Bettendorf is the prime contractor on the U.S. 218 patching project set from Johnson County Road F-62 near the city of Hills to the junction of Interstate 80. Daytime work is expected to close one lane of traffic in each direction begin Monday, Sept. 15 near the city of Hills to Iowa 1 on the south side of Iowa City.

Once the daytime work is completed, the contractor will switch over to nighttime lane restrictions from Iowa 1 to I-80 beginning at 7 p.m. and ending at 6:30 a.m. Sunday evenings through Friday mornings. The project is expected to be completed in approximately two weeks, weather permitting. 

Use caution in the work zone. Obey all posted signs. Allow ample space between vehicles, minimize distractions and always wear your seat belt.
