Travel problems persist in eastern Iowa

AMES, Iowa - Dec. 28, 2008: 8:15 a.m. update: A mix of snow and ice on roadways in the eastern half of the state continue to present travel problems. Travel conditions should improve by late morning as road temperatures reach above freezing.

The following travel conditions are presently forecast for the affected areas.

East central:

Road temperatures are expected to reach above freezing around 11 a.m. this morning, which will help melt off ice/snow from the roadways. Formation of frost on roads and bridges is possible beginning around 7 p.m. this evening through 6 a.m. Monday.

Northeast:

Road temperatures are expected to be above freezing for a brief period from noon to 3 p.m. today. This will help to begin melting precipitation from the roadways. Areas of refreezing and frost on roads and bridges are possible beginning at 5 p.m. today through 6 a.m. Monday.

Southeast:

Road temperatures should reach above freezing beginning around 10 a.m. this morning, which will help melt off ice and slush from the roadways. Areas of frost on roads and bridges is possible beginning at 6 p.m. this evening through the overnight hours.
