Erosion control work to be done on two eastern Iowa roadsides beginning Aug. 3

DAVENPORT, Iowa, July 28, 2009 – According to Iowa Department of Transportation officials, preparation is underway to enhance the roadsides and control soil erosion with two revetment projects, one along Iowa 22 in Scott County and the other on U.S. 61 in Clinton County. Both projects are set to begin Aug. 3 and run through October, weather permitting.

For the Iowa 22 project in Scott County, concrete patching and roadside work may cause brief, intermittent lane closures from three miles west of Interstate 280 to the Franklin Street intersection in Buffalo. There will be a 12-foot lane width restriction in place during closures.

On U.S. 61 in Clinton County, work will take place on the roadside from the Wapsi River overflow to the Scott County line. Brief, intermittent lane closures can be expected with a 12-foot lane width restriction in place when a closure is necessary.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations can more than double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
