Iowa 93 bridge work restricts lanes in Sumner beginning July 9

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – July 2, 2009 – Bridge work on Iowa 93 in the city of Sumner will restrict lanes beginning Thursday, July 9, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation's (DOT) New Hampton construction office.

Work associated with this project includes overlaying the entire deck, replacing concrete approaches, and adding concrete barriers along the inside of the sidewalk on both sides. The work will be completed in stages, with traffic shifted to one side. The open lanes will have a 10.5-foot wide lane restriction in each direction through the construction area.  Work on this project is expected to be completed by mid-fall.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations can more than double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
