Nighttime lane restrictions begin Monday on I-80 in Cedar County

MANCHESTER, Iowa – July 2, 2009 – A construction project to resurface Interstate 80 in Cedar County will cause the roadway to be restricted overnights in either direction beginning Monday, July 6, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation's (DOT) Manchester construction office.

The project area is set between mileposts 257.6 and 265.7. Intermittent lane closures will be necessary in each direction overnights from 7 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday nights through Friday mornings and from 9 p.m. Sunday nights to 6 a.m. Monday mornings. The open lane will have a 14-foot lane width restriction with 10-foot outside and 6-foot inside paved shoulders. These lane closures can be expected to continue into mid-September.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations can more than double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
