Traffic patterns change and ramps close on I-29 in Woodbury County

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – July 27, 2009 – As part of the continuing work on Interstate 29 in Woodbury County, bridge construction has closed the southbound lanes and traffic shifted in a head-to-head pattern in the northbound lanes between mileposts 120 and 127, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Sioux City construction office.

The bridge project has also closed the southbound I-29 exit ramp at Whiting. Traffic is expected to remain in a head-to-head pattern in the southbound lanes and the ramp closed until mid-November, weather permitting.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
