AMES, Iowa – Oct. 22, 2009 – Corridor preservation for the future interchange of interstates 35,80 and 235 (northeast mixmaster)  was implemented by the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) Oct. 21, 2009.

The corridor preservation zone (CPZ) includes an area encompassing the existing northeast systems interchange and adjoining areas generally bounded by NE Broadway Avenue (NE 46th Avenue), NE 54th Avenue, Delaware Avenue (NE 22nd Street), and NE 29th Street.

In accordance with the Code of Iowa, each city and county in which the above described corridor is located shall submit written notification to the Iowa DOT of an application for a building permit for construction valued at $25,000 or greater, of the submission of a subdivision plat, or of a proposed zoning change within the CPZ. If the building permit, subdivision plat, or proposed zoning change is not compatible with plans for the proposed bypass, the DOT may acquire all or part of the subject land.
