Port Neal bridge repair project let by Iowa DOT – prep work begins tomorrow

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Nov. 20, 2009 – Major repair work on the Port Neal bridge interchange on Interstate 29 was let by the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) Nov. 17, according to the agency’s District 3 Office. Cramer and Associates of Grimes, Iowa, is the apparent low bidder for the $174,000 project to repair damage caused by a bridge strike Aug. 5. No schedule has been approved for the repair.

During the repair project, southbound Interstate 29 will be closed in the area as portions of the bridge beams are replaced. To prepare to detour southbound traffic onto the existing ramps, some patching has been completed and asphalt work is expected to begin tomorrow.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations can more than double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
