U.S. 65 closures set to end Monday in northern Iowa

BRITT, Iowa – Nov. 13, 2009 – As the construction season nears an end, two closures on U.S. 65 in northern Iowa are set to end Monday, Nov. 16, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Britt construction office.

· Traffic on U.S. 65 between Manly and Northwood will be returned to that roadway Monday after being detoured all summer. Work to be done over the weekend includes painting of traffic lines.

· North of Mason City at Spring Creek, U.S. 65 traffic has been moved to an on-site detour due to bridge construction. The bridge is expected to open Monday and the on-site detour will be discontinued. However, 310th Street in will be closed to allow the contract to begin removing the temporary detour and to construct the segment of roadway connecting 310th Street to U.S. 65.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
