Road construction work planned for U.S. 63 in Bremer and Chickasaw counties
NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – March 8, 2010 – Beginning on or about Monday, March 29, work is scheduled to start on U.S. 63 from near Iowa 188 in Bremer County north to near the U.S. 18/Iowa 346 interchange in Chickasaw County, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) New Hampton construction office.
The scheduled work includes planting permanent seed mixes native to Iowa, installing fencing and other erosion control features. As part of the planting operations, aerial seeding will be used to broadcast seed and fertilizer in the area from the right-of-way line to near the shoulder edges.
Previous grading and paving projects in this section included temporary stabilizing seed planted to control erosion.
When construction work is underway, signage will be in place on the mainline and side roads in the work area to alert the public. The staging area for the airplane will be at a local airport and this phase is expected to take three days to complete, weather permitting. All other work will involve either shoulder or lane closures, and is expected to be completed by mid-summer.
