Update - eastbound I-80 closed overnights beginning for bridge construction activities

CRESTON, Iowa – March 9, 2010 – Bridge construction activities may close eastbound Interstate 80 in the overnight hours through 5 a.m. March 12, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Creston construction office.

Eastbound I-80 will be closed from exit 117 (Dallas County Road R-22) to exit 121 (Jordan Creek Parkway) nightly from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. each night. Inclement weather may extend the closure additional nights. Eastbound I-80 traffic will be detoured at exit 110 using U.S. 169 and U.S. 6 (Hickman Road). Motorists should expect some delays. No oversize loads will be allowed on the detour route.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
