Lane restrictions on I-80 near Altoona begin Sept. 7
DES MOINES, Iowa – Sept. 3, 2010 – Construction work to seal joints and cracks in the roadway will cause traffic on Interstate 80 to be restricted to one lane in both directions between exit 142 (U.S. 6, U.S. 65 and Hubbell Avenue) near Altoona and exit 159 (Jasper County Road F-48 and Polk County Road S-52) near Colfax beginning at midnight Tuesday, Sept. 7, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Des Moines construction office.
Lane closures will take place weekdays only. This project will be completed by Oct. 18.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
