MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Dec. 7, 2010 – Both eastbound lanes of U.S. 30 between Colo and State Center are now marked and open to traffic, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Marshalltown construction office.
Work on the four-lane pavement between State Center and Iowa 330 will continue this spring once the ground thaws. An unseasonably wet summer with rainfall well above average slowed grading work and resulted in paving later than expected. Favorable weather and dry conditions are needed to complete the longitudinal subdrain, asphalt and rock shoulders, paving of the turning lanes, installation of signage, pavement markings, and connection of the new pavement to the U.S. 30/Iowa 330 interchange.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
