Interchange ramp closures begin Saturday, July 7 at U.S. 20 and I-29 in Sioux City

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – July 5, 2012 –  Construction work on Interstate 29 in Sioux City will cause changes to the I-29 interchanges at U.S. 20 beginning at 7 a.m., Saturday, July 7, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s District 3 Office. 

For this phase of the project, the east- and westbound U.S. 20 entrance ramps to southbound I-29 will be closed to allow reconstruction of southbound I-29 pavement. The eastbound U.S. 20 to southbound I-29 ramp will be closed for approximately five weeks. The westbound U.S. 20 to southbound I-29 ramp will be closed for approximately 10 weeks.

Eastbound U.S. 20 to southbound I-29 traffic will be detoured to U.S. 77, across the Veteran’s Bridge to the southbound Wesley Parkway entrance ramp to I-29.  

Westbound U.S. 20 traffic wishing to enter southbound I-29 will be detoured onto northbound I-29 to Floyd Boulevard, then south on Floyd Boulevard to the entrance ramp to southbound I-29.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
