Posted on: October 11, 2012

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – Oct. 11, 2012 – The new U.S. 218 interchange with Bremer County Road C-50/Barrick Road, including the roundabout terminals, is now expected to be fully open to traffic on Friday, Oct. 12, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office. Originally, the interchange was set to open today.

Once the new interchange has opened, the temporary traffic signals on U.S 218 will be removed and the intersection of U.S. 218 and Marquis Road/Seventh Street will be permanently closed. The U.S. 218 frontage road (Wildcat Road) will be fully open.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
