AMES, IOWA – Nov. 9, 2012 – The Iowa Department of Transportation is announcing the Thanksgiving holiday schedules for the Motor Carrier Permit Center and all Iowa DOT-operated driver’s license stations.
All Iowa DOT business locations will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 22 and 23.
Motor Carrier Service Permit Center
The Iowa DOT's Office of Vehicle and Motor Carrier Services Permit Center will be closed Thursday and Friday, Nov. 22 and 23, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. The office will resume normal operations at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 26.
Because the Office of Vehicle and Motor Carrier Services typically experiences a heavy workload on the day following the holiday, customers are urged to submit applications for oversize permits, especially those weighing more than 156,000 pounds, several days before the permit is needed.
The Office of Vehicle and Motor Carrier Services, located at 6310 S.E. Convenience Blvd. in Ankeny, is a one-stop source for fuel, trip and oversize load permits; international registration plan (IRP) registration; international fuel tax agreement (IFTA) licensing; and travel authority needed by motor carriers and commercial vehicle operators to operate in Iowa.
Iowa DOT’s driver’s license stations
All Iowa DOT driver’s license stations, normally open Tuesday through Saturday, will be closed Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 22-24, in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
In lieu of Saturday service, the stations will be open Monday, Nov. 26, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Normal business hours will resume at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27.
