Iowa Transportation Commission Approves Grant for Lee County

AMES, Iowa – Feb. 12, 2013 – Today, the Iowa Transportation Commission approved a Revitalize Iowa's Sound Economy (RISE) grant application submitted by Lee County. Up to $4,941,617 will be made available to assist in reconstruction of approximately 3,270 feet of 180th Street from the new Iowa Fertilizer Co. facility to 360th Avenue; construction of approximately 6,250 feet of 360th Avenue from 180th Street south to Lee County Road J-50; and reconstruction of approximately 12,090 feet of Lee County Road J-50 west to U.S. 61. This project is anticipated to be completed by July 2014. 

The roadway improvements will provide access to the site of Iowa Fertilizer Co.’s nitrogenous fertilizer plant, which is located near Wever in northern Lee County. The plant will produce ammonia, urea, ammonium nitrate, and diesel exhaust fluid. The improvements will also provide access to 450 acres for industrial and manufacturing purposes.  

Funding for the grant comes from the county share of the RISE Fund.
