AMES, Iowa – April 4, 2013 – Contractors will be closing the northbound U.S. 65 ramp to eastbound Interstate 80 near Altoona beginning Sunday, April 7, at 10 p.m., weather permitting, to reconstruct the ramp, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Des Moines construction office.
U.S. 65 northbound motorists will follow the signed detour on U.S. 6 (Hubble Avenue) that turns back into U.S. 65 to the north. This ramp project is part of the larger multiphase project to replace the I-80 interchange (exit 142) near Adventureland. See map for more information about the detour route.
This ramp reconstruction is expected to be completed by approximately May 17.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
