AMES, Iowa – May 9, 2013 – The Iowa Department of Transportation will be closing its offices over the Memorial Day weekend, Saturday, May 25, through Monday, May 27.
All business locations will be closed Monday, May 27.
DOT driver's license stations
All Iowa DOT drivers’ license stations will be closed Saturday, May 25, and Monday, May 27 (offices are normally closed on Mondays). The stations will resume operations Tuesday, May 28, at 8:30 a.m.
of Vehicle and Motor Carrier Services
The Iowa DOT’s Office of Vehicle and Motor Carrier Services, normally open Monday through Friday, will be closed Monday, May 27. Normal business hours will resume at 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 28. This includes the permit center.
The Iowa DOT recommends that commercial vehicle operators plan ahead if they will need services from the Iowa DOT around the Memorial Day weekend. Commercial vehicle operators who need fuel or trip permits for travel in Iowa during the Memorial Day weekend should obtain them prior to 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 24.
No movements of oversize loads will be permitted in Iowa from noon Friday, May 24, until 30 minutes prior to sunrise on Tuesday, May 28.
Because the permit center typically experiences a heavy workload on the day following the holiday, customers are urged to submit applications for oversize permits, especially those more than 156,000 pounds, several days before needing the permit.
The permit center, located at 6310 SE Convenience Blvd. in Ankeny, is a one-stop source for fuel, trip and oversize load permits; International Registration Plan (IRP) registration; International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) licensing; and travel authority needed by motor carriers and commercial vehicle operators to operate in Iowa.
