ANKENY, Iowa – May 22, 2013 – The Iowa Department of Transportation and Saydel High School are partnering in a Safe Students Rally this afternoon at the school, 5601 NE 7th in Des Moines.

The event, which runs from 2:45 to 4:30 p.m. today, includes the following activities.

  1. A demonstration of the “No-Zone” – how to share the road with large trucks.
  2. A driving simulator from Iowa State University so students can try their safe driving skills.
  3. Teen-oriented information on seat belts and distracted impaired driving.
  4. A special appearance by the famous crash test dummies, Vince and Larry.

This celebration is the culmination of year-long, student-led effort to get students to drive safely. During the school year, Saydel High School students developed their own safe driving campaign, with the help of the Iowa DOT, that included signing pledges to wear seat belts at all times and not drive while distracted.
