AMES, Iowa – Aug. 16, 2013 – The Iowa Department of Transportation will be closing offices over the Labor Day weekend.
All business locations will be closed Monday, Sept. 2.
Iowa DOT driver's
All Iowa DOT driver's license stations will be closed Saturday, Aug. 31, and Monday, Sept. 2 (offices are normally closed on Mondays). The stations will resume operation Tuesday, Sept. 3, at 8:30 a.m.
Office of Vehicle and
Motor Carrier Services
The Iowa DOT’s Office of Vehicle and Motor Carrier Services, normally open Monday through Friday, will be closed Monday, Sept. 2. Normal business hours will resume Tuesday, Sept. 3.
The Iowa DOT recommends commercial vehicle operators plan ahead if they will need services from the department around the Labor Day weekend. Commercial vehicle operators who need fuel or trip permits for travel in Iowa during the Labor Day weekend should obtain them prior to 4:30 p.m., Friday, Aug. 30.
No movement of oversize loads will be permitted in Iowa from noon Friday, Aug. 30, until 30 minutes prior to sunrise on Tuesday, Sept. 3 .
Because the permit center typically experiences a heavy workload on the day following a holiday, customers are urged to submit applications for oversize permits, especially those weighing more than 156,000 pounds, several days before the permit is needed.
The Office of Vehicle and Motor Carrier Services’ permit center, located at 6310 SE Convenience Blvd. in Ankeny, is a one-stop source for fuel, trip and oversize load permits; International Registration Plan (IRP) registration; International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA) licensing; and travel authority needed by motor carriers and commercial vehicle operators to operate in Iowa.
