October 09, 2013

AMES, Iowa – Oct. 9, 2013 – Minor traffic delays may be encountered on southbound Interstate 35 at exit 194 and westbound U.S. 18/Iowa 27 (Avenue of the Saints) at the U.S. 65 interchange while Iowa Department of Transportation maintenance staff, in conjunction with the Iowa State Patrol, test the automatic gate closures Monday, Oct. 14, according to the Iowa DOT’s District 2 Office in Mason City.

The interstate may be closed in this area for up to an hour. Traffic will be routed around the closure using the ramp system in the area.

  • I-35 automatic gate closures at exit 194: The testing will begin at approximately 9:30 a.m. Traffic in the southbound lanes will be detoured onto the 194 off-ramp, then right back to the on-ramp, and then back to interstate.

  • U.S. 18 automatic gate closures at exit 186: The testing is expected to start at 10 a.m. Westbound U.S. 18 traffic will be detoured at the exit 186 off-ramp, and then right back onto U.S. 18 via the on-ramp.
