July 02, 2014

NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – July 2, 2014 – Traffic on southbound Interstate 380/U.S. 218 at exit 71 in Black Hawk County will be stopped for up to 20 minutes at times between 3 and 4 a.m. Thursday, July 3, to allow the replacement of a width restriction traffic sign that was damaged by weather, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office. The sign notes a lane width of 12 feet.

Traffic will be stopped while the damaged sign and supports are removed; and again to allow the placement of post anchors and setting the new sign. Law enforcement will assist with stopping traffic in the work zone. Motorists approaching this area should drive with caution and be prepared to stop for traffic backups.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
