CHEROKEE, Iowa – July 1, 2014 – U.S. 59 in Cherokee and Ida counties will open at 1 p.m. today with the completion of stage 1 construction, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Cherokee construction office.

Cedar Valley Corp. LLC., the contractor of this $7.8 million Portland cement concrete overlay project, anticipates starting stage 2 of the project after Labor Day.

Iowa DOT’s construction project website, www.iowadot.gov/travel.html#/highwayconstruction, has 2014 project details, including cost, schedules, planned detours, current status, start and completion dates, and more.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
