U.S. 71 south of Spencer to close April 17 for bridge replacement #iatraffic

CHEROKEE, Iowa – April 4, 2017 – Replacement of the bridge on U.S. 71 over Prairie Creek south of Spencer will require closing the roadway to traffic beginning at 8 a.m. Monday, April 17, until Friday, Sept. 1, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Cherokee construction office.

Motorists will be directed around the work zone on a signed detour using 11th Street and Clay County roads M-38 and B-40.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
