AMES, Iowa – Dec. 12, 2017 – Today, at their meeting in Ames, the Iowa Transportation Commission approved an amendment to the highway section of the 2018-2022 Iowa Transportation Improvement Program (Program). The amendment addresses emerging project needs by adding or advancing four projects to fiscal year (FY) 2018, while delaying others from FY 2018. The net result is a minimal change to the overall highway program balance.
The amendment adds highway and bridge projects to the FY 2018 Program with an estimated cost of $3 million, and advances an FY 2020 project to FY 2018 with an estimated cost of $800,000. The added projects are necessary due to emerging highway needs, while the advancing project will better coordinate with other planned work. These construction projects are planned to begin in calendar year 2018.
The highway and bridge projects to be delayed from the FY 2018 Program have an estimated cost of $3.7 million. The delay will allow for more time to better develop the improvements that have been identified or align with the schedule of local jurisdictions.
