CHARITON, Iowa – June 18, 2018 – Road construction work on Iowa 149 between 170th Street and 180th Street north of Ottumwa over Cedar Creek will require closing the bridge and roadway to traffic beginning at 7 a.m. Friday, June 22, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Chariton construction office.
The bridge closure and detour are expected to be in place for five months. During this project, motorists will be directed around the work zone using one of the following signed detour routes (see map).
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
