NEW HAMPTON, Iowa – Aug. 28, 2018 – As part of the U.S. 63 reconstruction project from Jefferson to Franklin street in Waterloo, replacement of underground utilities, lighting, signals, sidewalks and street reconstruction will require closing Franklin Street mid-block between Mullan and First streets, extending east for about a block, beginning at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 4, until mid-November 2018, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s New Hampton construction office.
Eastbound traffic will be detoured around the work zone using East Mullan Avenue, Lafayette Street, and East Park Avenue. Westbound traffic will use East Third Street, Lafayette Street, and East Mullan Avenue.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey the posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
