Iowa Transportation Commission Approves Public Transit Infrastructure Grant Program Funding
AMES, Iowa – Aug. 13, 2013 – The Iowa Transportation Commission (Commission) approved more than $1.6 million in funding to support eight public transit projects. The projects are funded under the state Public Transit Infrastructure Grant Fund.
The Public Transit Infrastructure Grant Fund provides state funding assistance to Iowa’s public transit systems for new or improved facilities to support their public transit services. Stateparticipation is limited to 80 percent and the balance must be matched from local sources.The Iowa General Assembly appropriates funding to this program on an annual basis. Eight projects were approved by the Commission, which will permit construction/improvement of facilities at five systems in Fort Dodge, Quad Cities, Atlantic, Sioux City and Des Moines.
- Construct new vehicle and administration facility (Region 5 – Fort Dodge): $347,120
- Purchase and install new generator (Region 9 – Quad Cities): $56,000
- Construct wash bay addition (Region 13 – Atlantic): $162,240
- Renovate operations office (Des Moines): $600,000
- Rehabilitate maintenance lane (Des Moines): $36,000
- Replace bus wash system (Sioux City): $240,000
- Rehabilitate roof (Sioux City): $136,000

“The Public Transit Infrastructure Grant Fund is an important source of funding for public transit systems. This program enables transit systems to construct and maintain facilities that are critical to the operation of the system and maintenance of the vehicles,” said Michelle Mc Enany, director of the Office of Public Transit at the Iowa Department of Transportation.
