Proposed replacement of bridge on U.S. 18 in Clay County near Spencer to be discussed Jan. 24
AMES, Iowa – The proposed replacement of a bridge on U.S. 18 over the Little Sioux River approximately three miles east of the east U.S. 18/71 junction will be discussed at a public meeting in Spencer Thursday, Jan. 24, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT).
The Iowa DOT will hold the meeting in the Spencer Public Library,
21 E. Third St. The public is invited to attend anytime between noon and 2 p.m.
No formal presentation will be made at this meeting; however, details of the proposed improvement will be discussed as well as the proposed de minimis effect of the U.S. 18 bridge project on the Stouffer Memorial Wildlife Refuge located north of U.S. 18.De Minimis impacts on publicly owned parks, recreation areas, and wildlife and waterfowl refuges are defined as those that do not “adversely affect the activities, features and attributes” pursuant to “Section 4(f)” United States Code Title 49, section 303.
Iowa DOT staff members will be available to present related information and discuss the proposal informally with interested citizens.
U.S. 18 would be closed to through traffic during construction. Traffic would be detoured on Clay County roads M-54, B-24, and M-50.
