Interstate 80 Missouri River bridge project contract announced

ATLANTIC, Iowa – The new Interstate 80 Missouri River bridge project in Council Bluffs was awarded to Jensen Construction Company of Des Moines, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT).

This $56.1 million project is part of Council Bluffs Interstate System (CBIS) improvement project. The project is expected to be completed in May 2010.

The contractor will begin work next week. Motorists should experience few, if any, impacts during the project since most of the work will occur away from the traveled portion of the roadway.

The Iowa DOT asks motorists to drive with caution, stay alert, watch their speed, wear their seat belts, and use extra caution in work zones. The majority of crashes in a work zone are rear-end collisions, so reduce your speed and keep a safe distance behind the vehicle in front of you.

Visit the Iowa DOT’s Web site at www.cbinterstate.com for additional information on the Interstate 80 Missouri River bridge project. In the future, the Web site will have construction information regarding this project and other CBIS projects.
