Closure of U.S. 169 bridge over the Des Moines River in Algona postponed until Thursday

Posted on: April 29, 2008

BRITT, Iowa – Weather has postponed the closure of the U.S. 169 bridge over the Des Moines River in Algona scheduled for tomorrow.  The Iowa Department of Transportation's Britt construction office has now approved the closure for Thursday, May 1, weather permitting.

The closure is necessary for the contractor to use the completed side of the bridge as a staging area for equipment used to pour the bridge deck on the unfinished side. During the expected 10-hour closure, traffic will be detoured east on U.S. 18 to Diagonal Street and back to U.S. 169.

The bridge is expected to be completed in June.

The Iowa DOT asks motorists to drive with caution and obey posted signs in the construction area. As in all construction zones, drivers should stay alert, watch their speed, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear their seat belts.
