Posted on: May 30, 2008

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) is reporting that Iowa 13 in Manchester is closed due to flooding on the Maquoketa River. A traffic detour has been established.

The Iowa DOT will be closely monitoring flooding conditions throughout the next few days and issuing reports of road and bridge closures, as appropriate. All flood release notices are posted at, and additional traveler information is available on or by calling 511.

The Iowa DOT is also reminding motorists to avoid flooded and flood-susceptible areas throughout Iowa, including affected city streets, county roads and state highways. Never attempt to walk or drive through a water-covered roadway, and beware of rising, swift-moving water.

If your route is blocked by barricades, find another route. Barricades are put up by state or local officials to protect travelers from unsafe roads. Driving around them can be a serious risk.
