MARSHALLTOWN, Iowa – Starting Friday, May 30, U.S. 6 will be closed between Iowa 224 and Iowa 146 in Jasper and Poweshiek counties, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Marshalltown construction residency. The milling of the old asphalt surface has revealed deteriorated pavement joints that cannot accommodate traffic.

During the closure, U.S. 6 traffic will be detoured using Iowa 224, I-80 and Iowa 146. The road will be closed until the new asphalt surface can be placed. The road is expected to be closed until June 30.

The Iowa DOT asks motorists to drive with caution and obey posted signs in the construction area. As in all construction zones, drivers should stay alert, watch their speed, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear their seat belts.
