Portions of Iowa 5 in Monroe County closed due to tornado damage

FAIRFIELD, Iowa– May 30, 2008 – The Iowa Department of Transportation (Iowa DOT) is announcing the following road closures due to downed power lines and fallen trees caused by a tornado, according to the Iowa DOT’s District Office in Fairfield.

Iowa 5 is closed at the junctions of:

  • Monroe County Road T-17 north of Albia
  • Iowa 92 south at Knoxville

The Iowa DOT has detoured traffic off of Iowa 5 south of Knoxville onto Iowa
92, then east to Monroe County Road T-17, and south on T-17 to the junction of
Iowa 5 south of Attica.

Motorists should use caution in these areas and follow established detours. The Iowa DOT reminds motorists not to drive past barricades.

The Iowa DOT will be inspecting roadways to make sure they are safe, and clearing any debris.
