Contracts being let to repair flood damaged roadways


AMES, Iowa - The Iowa Department of Transportation is beginning the process of repairing flood-damaged roads. The first emergency contracts will be let July 2.

Iowa 1 in Linn County
A project to grade and replace the pavement from 0.5 mile southwest of the Cedar River northeast approximately one mile will be let July 2. Work is expected to begin July 7 with completion expected in mid-August, weather permitting.

The northbound lane of Iowa 1 was severely damaged by flooding from the Cedar River.  The road will remain closed between Mount Vernon and Solon until repairs are completed. A marked detour remains in effect.

U.S. 6 in Muscatine County

A project to grade and replace the concrete pavement on U.S. 6 from the Cedar River east 0.5 mile will be let July 2. Work is expected to begin July 7 and be completed by mid-August, weather permitting.

Both the east- and westbound lanes of U.S. 6 were damaged by flooding from the Cedar River and will remain closed from the intersection of Iowa 38 and Muscatine County Road X-46.
