Update - Southbound I-29 and westbound I-80 set to be briefly closed Monday evening in Council Bluffs

ATLANTIC, Iowa – Nov. 26, 2008 – Sign installation work will briefly interrupt traffic on southbound Interstate 29 and westbound Interstate 80 in Council Bluffs Monday, Dec. 1, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) District 4 Office.

There will be single lane closures on southbound I-29 south of 9th Avenue beginning at 8 p.m. All lanes of southbound I-29 will be closed to traffic twice during the sign installation process, for up to 20 minutes each time, to allow the contractor to set the sign trusses over the roadway. The roadway is expected to be returned to normal traffic by 10 p.m.

A similar process to the I-29 closure will take place on westbound I-80 at Madison beginning at approximately 10 p.m. with a single lane closure. All lanes of westbound I-80 will be closed twice, for up to 20 minutes each time, during the installation process to lift the trusses into place. All westbound I-80 lanes are expected to be reopened to traffic by midnight.

The Iowa DOT urges motorists to plan ahead for these closures, obey all posted signs, limit distractions in the work zone and wear seat belts.
