Eastbound I-80 lanes near Atlantic restricted beginning April 6
CRESTON, Iowa – March 24, 2009 – Construction work on eastbound Interstate 80 near Atlantic will restrict lanes beginning Monday, April 6, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Creston construction office.
Both eastbound lanes are scheduled to be closed for the replacement of bridges over U.S. 71 and the East Nishnabotna River located between mile markers 60 and 61 at the U.S. 71 interchange with I-80.
While the eastbound lanes are closed, traffic will be routed in a head-to-head pattern in the westbound lanes. The bridges are scheduled to be complete and the interstate open to normal traffic by late summer. Christensen Bros., Inc. of Cherokee Iowa was the successful bidder on the $4.8 million dollar project.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted signs in the work area and that traffic fines double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, obey posted speed limits, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
