Iowa 16 reduced to one lane in Van Buren County
MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – March 30, 2009 – Construction work will restrict Iowa 16 to one lane in Van Buren County beginning April1, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Mount Pleasant construction office.
The hot mix asphalt paving widening project is set to go from the south junction of Iowa 1 and Iowa 16 east on Iowa 16 to the junction with Henry County Road W-46. The lane restriction is expected to be in place weekdays and Saturdays with an 11-foot lane width restriction on the open lane. Traffic will be assisted through the work are by flaggers. The roadway will be returned to normal traffic patterns when workers are not present. Work requiring lane restrictions are expected to be completed by mid-September.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
