Pavement rehabilitation on U.S. 34 to through Fairfield to begin Monday
MOUNT PLEASANT, Iowa – March 31, 2009 – Pavement rehabilitation work on U.S. 34 through Fairfield may cause some traffic disruption this summer, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Council Bluffs construction office.
Pavement milling and resurfacing on U.S. 34 though Fairfield from Filbert Road to 32nd Street and from Glasgow Road to Nutmeg Avenue is expected to begin Monday, April 6, weather permitting. The contractor will be performing much of the work at night to keep business disruptions to a minimum. Over the summer there will be intermittent lane closures on U.S. 34 with flaggers in place to assist traffic. During lane closures, the open lane will have an 11-foot lane width restriction.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
