Polk County work restricts lanes on Iowa 163 and I-80 this week

DES MOINES, Iowa – March 31, 2009 – Continued work on Interstate 80 in Polk County and shoulder work on Iowa 163 east of Pleasant Hill may cause traffic disruptions this week,   according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Des Moines construction office.

From March 31 to April 3, Iowa 163 between NE 56th and NE 120th street east of Pleasant Hill will have lane closures for shoulder work between 7:30 a.m. and 7:30 p.m. daily.

Weather permitting, one lane of westbound I-80 will be closed overnight Wednesday, April 1 from 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m. Thursday morning approximately three miles west of the Altoona/Bondurant exit (U.S. 6) for sign truss installation. Westbound I-80 will be completely closed for up to 20 minutes at a time as sign trusses are removed and new signs placed.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
