Westbound I-80 lanes closed beginning March 30

CRESTON, Iowa  - March 24, 2009 – Construction will restrict the westbound lanes of Interstate 80 near Adair beginning March 30, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Creston construction office.

Both westbound lanes will be closed to begin replacement of the bridge over the Iowa Interstate Railroad located near milepost 76. During construction, exit 75 (Adair County Road G-30) will be closed. Motorist will be directed to use exit 76 (Adair County Road N-54).

While the westbound I-80 lanes are closed, two-lane traffic will be routed in a head-to-head pattern in the eastbound lanes. The bridge is scheduled to be complete and the interstate open to normal traffic by late summer. A.M. Cohron & Son, Inc. of Atlantic Iowa was the successful bidder on the $2.2 million dollar project.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted signs in the work area and that traffic fines double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, obey posted speed limits, allow ample space between vehicles, and wear seat belts.
