Closures planned for Iowa 9 in Osceola County
CHEROKEE Iowa – April 24, 2009 – A single lane closure is planned for the month of May on Iowa 9 east of Sibley to allow the contractor to complete preparatory work for a full closure of the roadway that is scheduled to begin June 1, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s Cherokee construction office.
The project scheduled to begin May 4 will close one lane of traffic from approximately 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Iowa 9 from Iowa 60 east to the intersection with Osceola County Road L-58. Traffic will be assisted through the work area by flaggers and a pilot car. The roadway will be reopened to traffic when workers are not present. This traffic pattern is expected to continue through the month of May.
Weather and schedules permitting, the full road closure set to begin June 1 will detour traffic using Iowa 60 at Sibley and then onto Osceola County roads A-22 and L-58 through Ocheyedan. This project is expected to be completed by mid-October.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations can more than double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
