Iowa DOT News Release

I-29 interchange traffic altered in Fremont County beginning next week

Posted on: April 29, 2009

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – April 29, 2009 – Fremont County Road J-24 will be closed at the Interstate 29 interchange beginning overnight May 8 for approximately two days, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Council Bluffs construction office.

The bridge over Fremont Count Road J-24 is being replaced as part of the work to rehabilitate  I-29. Traffic on I-29 is scheduled to be placed in a head-to-head traffic pattern the week of May 4 as construction crews continue work to resurface the southbound lanes and replace two bridges.

Work on the bridge itself is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. Friday, May 8, when the road will be closed for removal of the existing southbound bridge. Bridge demolition work is scheduled to be completed and the county road reopened by Sunday evening, May 10, at 9 p.m. Once reopened, the road will be reduced to one lane and traffic controlled with temporary traffic signals as a new bridge is built.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations can more than double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
