COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – April 29, 2009 – Road work is scheduled to begin on Iowa 44 east of Harlan the week of May 4, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Council Bluffs construction office.
The planned project includes patching, cold-in-place recycling and asphalt resurfacing the highway from Harlan east 15 miles to Kimballton. One lane of traffic will be closed when workers are onsite. Henningsen Construction Inc. of Atlantic is expected to finish the $4.3 million project by late summer.
The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations can more than double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
