Iowa DOT News Release

Reconstruction work on Iowa 2/Iowa 5 intersection in Centerville begins May 11

Posted on: April 30, 2009

CHARITON, Iowa – April 30, 2009 – Storm sewer and pavement patching work will cause intermittent lane closures at the intersection of Iowa 2 and Iowa 5 in Centerville beginning May 11, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Chariton construction office.

The week-long patching and storm sewer project is in preparation for the complete reconstruction of the intersection. Once the patching and storm sewer work is complete, the entire intersection will be rebuilt, beginning with the northeast quadrant. Temporary traffic signals will be in place to assist motorists through the work area. The intersection reconstruction is expected to last through October.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations can more than double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
