Culvert project restricts U.S. 59 north of Holstein to one lane beginning May 26

CHEROKEE, Iowa – May 18, 2009 –  A culvert project on U.S. 59 one-half mile north of Holstein will restrict traffic to one lane beginning Tuesday, May 26, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Cherokee construction office.

The U.S. 59 project over a small stream in Ida County will have temporary traffic signals installed to assist traffic through the work zone. The open lane will have a 14-foot lane width restriction in place.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations can more than double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
