Intermittent lane closures to be expected on U.S. 65 northeast of Altoona

DES MOINES, Iowa – May 21, 2009 – Intermittent lane closures can be expected on U.S. 65 in Polk County north of Altoona, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Des Moines construction office.

The construction project on both directions of U.S. 65 will include bridge approach work, patching and asphalt resurfacing. Intermittent lane closures can be expected throughout the project, which has a scheduled completion date of Aug. 1, weather permitting.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations can more than double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
