Iowa 1 lanes restricted in Johnson County beginning tonight

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – May 27, 2009 – Construction work will restrict traffic lanes on Iowa 1 through Iowa City in Johnson County for approximately one week beginning at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Cedar Rapids construction office.

The lane restrictions will be in place from:

·      7 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, to 6:30 a.m. Friday, May 29, and

·      7 p.m. Sunday, May 31, to 6:30 a.m. Friday, June 5.

Traffic will be returned to normal patterns when the lane restrictions are not in place.

Hawkeye Paving Company of Bettendorf is the prime contractor for the Iowa 1 patching project set from the junction with U.S. 218 northeasterly to U.S. 6.

The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations can more than double in work zones. As in all work zones, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear seat belts.
