Bridge inspection work to restrict lanes on Iowa 9 Mississippi River bridge in Lansing beginning Aug. 19
MASON CITY, Iowa – July 31, 2009 – Lanes on the Iowa 9 Mississippi River bridge at Lansing will be restricted for bridge inspection work beginning Wednesday, Aug. 19, weather permitting, according to the Iowa Department of Transportation’s (DOT) District 2 maintenance office.
While some work will be taking place Aug. 18, lane closures and restrictions are not expected until Aug. 19 and run daily from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through Aug. 22, weather permitting. During the project, the open lane will have a 9-foot lane width restriction. Flaggers will be in place to assist motorists through the work area.
The Iowa DOT has hired a consultant, HNTB, to conduct the inspection.
The Iowa DOT also reminds motorists to drive with caution, obey posted speed limit and other signs in the work area, and be aware that traffic fines for moving violations are at least double in work zones. As always, drivers should stay alert, allow ample space between vehicles and wear their seat belts.
